AVID at TMHS

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID students are determined to go to college and to make a better future for themselves. AVID teaches skills and behaviors in order to achieve academic success, and also provides intensive peer support through tutorials and strong student/teacher relationships. We create a positive peer environment for students and that drives development towards a sense of hope and personal determination.

Thunder Mountain High School implemented AVID over 10 years ago with elective classes. In addition, AVID strategies, including WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading), are used schoolwide, so that all students learn skills that will help them not only in their classes but also in their future college and career paths.
